What Do I Love about Myar Kumaon?
Anything.
Everything.
Yes, That is True. I Like everything about Kumaoni Culture. No doubt there are some old stigma’s which needs to be changed. But Still I love everything related to “Myar Kumaon” (My Kumaon). I will tell you what in details I like about Kumaon hold your breath as you will also Fall in Love with Devbhoomi after I tell you more about it.
The first thing in My List is This thing.
Rangwali Pichodi
Amazing na? It is Known as “Rangwali Pichodi” (Coulerful Stole). I will tell you about it’s Importance. It is worn by every Married Close relatives of Person having ceremonial occasions in Uttarakhand. From bride to great grandmother, every women in the family wear it on occasions be it Namkarna or Marriage, Upanayan or Mundan. It has a special significance and mandatory for all married women in the family or close relation. Another salient feature of Rangwali Pichhora is that it can be put on by widows also, those as per social traditions, they are not supposed to wear colourful garments but She can wear Pichodi when is social function of close relative. Amazing na?
In old days it was made by taking a Yellow Coloured Stole then using tie and die technique with help of 25 Paise Coin & dipping it in Vermillion. With Modernization the techniques have changed into printing But designs and overall pattern is same. The center design is of ‘Swastik’ is and in four quadrant of Swastik, Sun, Shankh (Cronch shell), A Bell with ‘Om’ and Goddess are drawn. The Swastik is made by drawing some geometrical drawings or leaves and flowers and then surrounded by small dots. Then dots of larger size are printed all over. This printing is surrounded by a beautiful border. Later on border, lace or jhalar is stitched to make is more vibrant & attractive.
Kumaoni Nath
The second thing I like most about my culture is the traditional “Nose Ring”. It is called Kumaoni Nath. Made of Pure Gold it just can make every Girl look Pretty (I can Bet on that). It is heavy but the charm it creates I tell you is awesome. This is also one mandatory ornament for Married Women of Kumaon. Besides this there are many other traditional ornaments. I can describe every bit of all but it will make the answer long and boring. So Will just attach pictures to give you idea.

Festivals:
Every Festival Celebrated here are taking along whole village. For example if there is Holi then All Mens of Village will sing and Dance along Visiting every single house on Village to wish them. Similarly Women will gather to play holi along. So, we are never alone to celebrate any family occasion or tragedies of life & Death. Everyone in Village is like Brother & Sister. It creates a Great Bonding.
Our Diety:
In kumaon we have many God’s and we always remember them prior to any good work or Good thing in every step of Life. Every Village have its own clan & Devata known as Kul Devta. Starting from Maa Bhagwati Nanda Devi, Naina Devi, Gilju, Samju, Harju, Bhumiya Than, Devi Than etc.
These are just Major things when I think about my cuture. Beside these there is much more things to Love Like Tea with Mishri, Pakoda & raita, Food and everything. But I will limit my answer here. Hope you too find it Lovely.

Ingredients: 1 kg Wheat Flour 500 gms  Jaggery Fennel Seeds as per taste Oil to fry Method: 1.) Melt  Jaggery  in 500 ml of water. 2.) Story of Samju God!!! The legend of Guru Gorakhnath (Saim-Jyu) goes like this. Hail Guru Gorkhinath, yours alone is the name. Having worn his clothes, Samji stated he was going to Uttrakhand - Byoli Samji is now preparing to go to Uttrakhand. While travelling astride his horse, he reached Haldwani. As he travelled from there he reached Kathgodam. From there, he set up camp at Gogan Godam, Sitam Chaupal and Khatduva Godam. Chu ke laddoo (Rajgira Ladoo)

Ingredients: Chu (Rajgira) 100 gms   Jaggery 50 gms A bowl of water 1.) Roast or pop the Rajgira seeds well in a wok  & keep it aside Chu ke Laddoo 2.) In other nonstick wok add the Jaggery & stir it well so that it do not burn until the colour is brown. 3.) Add Rajgira to Jaggery & keep stirring until it mixes well with it. 4.) Remove it from stove & take some water in a bowl & soak hands in it  and make laddoo’s of the mixture as fast as you can as Jaggery can be moulded well when hot. Make rest ladoos similarly. Laddoo’s are ready to serve. If you can not make laddoo's don't worry there's a trick u can just grease a thali with a little bit of ghee/oil & spread the mixture very evenly & make a markes on it when hot and let it cool properly. Then demould it and here they are ready to eat. So easy & simple.  You can add the other ingredients in it to change the falvour like Dry fruits, dry coconut, dates.
